Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Legal Program


The Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Legal Program at The University of Mississippi School of Law has conducted legal research, education, and outreach since 1972 as the legal research arm of the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium.

The National Sea Grant College Program, administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is a federal/state partnership that matches NOAA Sea Grant expertise and resources with state academic institutions. The Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium (MASGC), created in 1972, is one of 34 Sea Grant programs. Consortium members include Auburn University, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, The University of Mississippi, The University of Southern Mississippi and the University of South Alabama.

To enhance the sustainable use and conservation of ocean and coastal resources to benefit the economy and environment in Alabama and Mississippi.


Legal Research

Legal Program attorneys contribute to the field of ocean and coastal law and policy through the analysis of current issues and the publication of their research results.


Outreach and Advisory Services

MASGLP attorneys are part of the MASGC Engagement and Education Team and respond to research requests from the MASGC team, state and federal agencies, and local governments in Alabama and Mississippi.


Education and Training

Our attorneys participate in continuing education programs, conferences, and symposia which serve to educate policy makers, practitioners and laypersons on the issues of marine resources and coastal development policy. MASGLP attorneys also train law students in the field of ocean and coastal law.
